A Tale of Two Houses

Filed under: Politics — don @ 11:42 am

House 1:

The four-bedroom home was planned so that “every room has a relationship with something in the landscape that’s different from the room next door. Each of the rooms feels like a slightly different place.” The resulting single-story house is a paragon of environmental planning.

The passive-solar house is built of honey-colored native limestone and positioned to absorb winter sunlight, warming the interior walkways and walls of the 4,000-square-foot residence. Geothermal heat pumps circulate water through pipes buried 300 feet deep in the ground. These waters pass through a heat exchange system that keeps the home warm in winter and cool in summer. A 25,000-gallon underground cistern collects rainwater gathered from roof urns; wastewater from sinks, toilets, and showers cascades into underground purifying tanks and is also funneled into the cistern. The water from the cistern is then used to irrigate the landscaping around the four-bedroom home, (which) uses indigenous grasses, shrubs, and flowers to complete the exterior treatment of the home. In addition to its minimal environmental impact, the look and layout of the house reflect one of the paramount priorities: relaxation. A spacious 10-foot porch wraps completely around the residence and beckons the family outdoors. With few hallways to speak of, family and guests make their way from room to room either directly or by way of the porch. “The house doesn’t hold you in. Where the porch ends there is grass. There is no step-up at all.” This house consumes 25% of the energy of an average American home and you can get it from removals eastbourne. (Source: Cowboys and Indians Magazine, Oct. 2002 and Chicago Tribune April 2001.)

House 2:

This 20-room, 8-bathroom house consumes more electricity every month than the average American household uses in an entire year. The average household in America consumes 10,656 kilowatt-hours (kWh) per year, according to the Department of Energy. In 2006, this house devoured nearly 221,000 kWh, more than 20 times the national average. Last August alone, the house burned through 22,619 kWh, guzzling more than twice the electricity in one month than an average American family uses in an entire year. As a result of this energy consumption, the average monthly electric bill topped $1,359. Also, natural gas bills for this house and guest house averaged $1,080 per month last year. In total, this house had nearly $30,000 in combined electricity and natural gas bills for 2006. (Source: just about anywhere in the news last month online and on talk radio, but barely on TV.)
House 1 belongs to George and Laura Bush, and is in Crawford , Texas .

House 2 belongs to Al and Tipper Gore, and is in Nashville , Tennessee .

VOTE!

Filed under: Politics — don @ 7:41 am

The subject says it all. You should vote for the person you feel would do the best job for your state/city/country. Of course if you vote Democrat you will probably burn in hell but itsn’t that a small price to pay?

Flip flop, flip flop

Filed under: Politics — don @ 5:19 pm

John Kerry is the gift that keeps on giving.  Not only did his flip flopping in 2003 help Bush win his second term now he’s trying to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory for the Democrats in 2006.

If you’ve been under a rock for the last few days here’s a summary.  On Monday Kerry said this while talking to a group at Pasadena City College:

“you study hard, you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well.

“And if you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq,”

Of course this touched off a firestorm from the Repubs demanding an apology so on Tuesday Kerry said this:

“I apologize to no one”

Finally today after some pretty strong pressure from other Dems Kerry said this:

I personally apologize to any service member, family member, or American who was offended.”

Flip flop, flip flop.  At least we know the drill.  I read a quote by Dick Cheney who told a crowd:

“He was for the joke before he was against it.”

Now the part that makes me a bit miffed.  Democrats are saying “Kerry is not on the ballot so why are the Republicans focusing on him?”

Let’s try this then.  George W. Bush is not on the ballot so why are the Democrats focusing on him?

The reason is the Democrats plan for Iraq is the opposite of whatever Bush is doing.  Never mind that to cut and run would leave the US in  grave danger.  They really don’t care as long as they get the power.  What happened to the party of Harry Truman and John Kennedy?

Antonio Must Go!

Filed under: Politics — don @ 8:31 am

I think it’s time to recall our mayor. I wasn’t real crazy about him when he got elected and I’m even less so after last week. Some would say I’m a racist but I don’t think race has anything to do with why I want him out.

As most of you heard, last week we had a protest demonstration in Los Angeles that was estimated at 500,000 or more. They weren’t protesting the war, they were protesting our government’s plan to turn a crime that is currently a misdemeanor into a felony.

I understand why they cross our borders. I understand that Mexico isn’t the greatest place to bring up your family but there is a legal process to come to this country. Following that process became so much more improtant after 9/11. There are thousands and thousands who want to see every man, woman, and child in this country dead. Nothing would give them more joy. That’s why we must protect our borders and know who we are letting in. That’s why it must be a crime to cross the border.

But what about Antonio you ask. What did he do? Well, he was the greeter to these 500,000 people. He stood on the steps of City Hall and told these people they were right and that he agrees with them. In other words our mayor told people he thinks it’s ok to break the law if you don’t agree with that law. Did I mention he was a member of Mecha? Mecha is an orginazation who’s primary purpose is to take back(liberate) Aztlan. Of course Aztlan includes California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Utah, and parts of a few other states.

And now he’s the mayor of the second largest city in the US. If that doesn’t scare you I don’t know what will.

The ports and Arab hysteria

Filed under: Politics — don @ 9:47 pm

Since the port deal has come to light I keep hearing stories about how the 9/11 hijackers had ties to the UAE.  Two of them came from there.  Some of the money went through UAE banks.  The UAE recognized the Taliban in Afghanistan.  The UAE doesn’t like Israel.

All true as far as I can tell.  But, quite a few of the hijackers also came from Saudi Arabia.  The banks the money went through were owned by British companies.  The UAE government helped us throw the Taliban out of Afghanistan after 9/11.  As far as the Israel thing, I doubt you’ll find any arab country changing their tune any time soon.

I suggest we all take a deep breath and let the story come out.  The Bush administration dropped the ball by not coming forward sooner but we should at least hear more.

After all, who taught the hijackers to fly planes?

Mine tragedy

Filed under: Politics — don @ 5:33 pm

I blame Bush! Where was the National Guard? Why didn’t they show up immediately? I think it’s pretty clear this could have been prevented if Bush had been doing a better job. This just shows that Bush doesn’t care about white people. In fact I’m pretty sure the explosion was set by the same people that blew up the levee in New Orleans. It’s a plot by the Bush administration.

Just like us

Filed under: Politics — don @ 11:49 am

Baghdad, Iraq. “Demonstrations broke out across the country Friday to denounce parliamentary elections that protesters called rigged.”

It looks like Iraq is getting just like the US. In 2000 the Democrats claimed our election was rigged and illegal.

Imagine this happening 3 years ago in Iraq. There would be even more dead bodies in the mass graves.

It isn’t perfect but democracy beats all the other forms of government. At least people don’t die for their political beliefs.

Oh. So now it’s a bad thing

Filed under: Politics — don @ 4:24 pm

I see. Lying to a grand jury is now a bad thing. I’ve always thought it was but it seems the lefties are choosy about it. I thought it was bad when Clinton did it and if Scooter did it I also think it’s bad. If he did he should go to jail. If they prove he lied to the grand jury I’ll be right next to the lefties this time.

And that’s the basic difference between my politics and most of the liberals who’s blogs I read. I believe when a law is broken there should be consequences. Libs seem to believe there should only be consequences if the lawbreaker was a Republican. Go figure.
