Seems to work.

I’ve had DSL since about the time DSL was available. I think I first got it from Pacific Bell back in 1994 or 95. At that time everyone else was using dial up and my DSL was 1.5 MB/S which was screaming. I’ve kept DSL since then and have upgraded the speed twice to where I’m now at 6 MB/S.
I don’t have anything against the DSL but I decided it’s time to get rid of the land line and since that’s how DSL comes into the house I am going to get rid of it too. I don’t see any need to continue paying for a home phone when everyone has a cell with unlimited calls between each other and free long distance.
What I’ll replace it with is Time Warner RoadRunner Cable Internet service. They have a 10 MB/S and a 15 MB/S and since the company pays for it I’m getting the 15.
The installer will be out on Saturday so I’ll let you know how it goes.
This should help the Netflix streaming a little but the VUDU will be the most helped. If you haven’t heard of VUDU it’s similar to Netflix in the home streaming but it’s pay per view and it’s also high def. I doubt we’ll use it much but with the price of movies these days it’s a lot cheaper to just wait and stream the high def to the LCD TV.
For the last year or so Michelle has been bugging me to go back to Pismo so she can ride a quad again. The last time she rode she was in her middle teens and I wasn’t sure she liked it. She was riding a small quad in the small dunes and went down a hill that, at the time, looked fairly large. Since then we’ve learned it was actually a very small hill but it scared her quite a bit.
My buddy Scott and I had scheduled a trip last Saturday and this time Michelle finally got to go. It was Scott, Michelle, Michelle’s boyfriend Toliy, and me. Toliy has never ridden a quad but he does ride a big Harley so I recommended that he rent a 400. They were going to get a 250 but I knew he could handle a 400 and wouldn’t enjoy it as much on the 250.
In order to save money Scott let Michelle use his Yamaha Breeze which is a 125 and gets around the dunes fairly well if you don’t weigh much. Shell fit the bill on that so they went down and picked it up from Scott on Thursday before we went. They went up on Friday and spent the day at Montana del Oro about 50 miles north of Pismo. They came down in the afternoon and were planning to stay the night on the beach but got stuck in Toliy’s 2WD truck. I had told them to let the air out of the tires before they tried to drive into the softer sand but they forgot. They ended up staying at a campground a half mile from the beach.
Scott and I drove up on Saturday morning and met them at the entrance to the beach. This time they let some air out and did better but I still had to pull them out once.
They rented Toliy’s bike about 10:30 and we rode for the next 4 hours. Michelle got stuck a lot early on but she finally figured out you have to keep that little bike at full throttle if you want to not get stuck. Toliy seemed to have a great time and is now talking about getting a quad of his own. We’ll see.
After they were done Scott and I went out for a little over an hour and rode hard. When we don’t have anyone to slow us down we cover a lot of ground in a short time although we always enjoy showing newbies around. After our hard ride we were beat and went to the hotel for the night. We were both hungry for wings so we found a spot up the rode and ate.
We’ve decided it’s best to just drive up on Saturday morning, spend the night in a hotel, and then come home Sunday. It’s a much faster trip when we don’t pull the trailers and don’t camp out. We’re also getting too old to ride a lot, or at least I am. Scott is almost 10 years younger than me so he’s still got lots of energy.
You can see the iPhone pictures on my Facebook page plus here’s a couple more from my good camera.
We watched this the other night. Sophomoric, silly, stupid, and way more 4 letter words than any movie needs to have. That said I enjoyed a few parts of it. I’ve been a John Cusack fan since Better Off Dead and One Crazy Summer.
They actually got a line from BOD that cracked me up. If you’ve ever seen that one you’ll remember the line “I want my 2 dollars!”.
If you don’t care for silly movies you should probably steer clear of this.
If you ever look at our Netflix queue you’ll notice our last 2 movies were Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief(say that 3 times fast) and Precious.
I doubt you could find 2 more different movies but I liked them both about equally.
Percy is a lighthearted tale of a young man who learns he is a demigod. A demigod is of course a child of a god and a mortal in Greek mythology. The story follows Percy as he learns of his “secret” and has to battle and work with other demigods to clear his name in the theft of Zeus’s lightning bolt. It had some great special effects and overall was an entertaining flick. Don’t expect to see anything deep but if you liked Lord of the Rings you’ll probably like this.
Precious on the other hand is a very, very dark movie about a subject that hasn’t been covered much. It’s about a 16 year old girl who’s father has raped her many times and impregnated her twice. The story follows the girl named Precious as she learns to fight back a little from her controlling mother and terrible past. Precious is portrayed by newcomer Gabourey Sidibe. Her mother is played by comedian Mo’Nique who I was not familiar with. Mo’Nique won the Oscar for Supporting Actress and she definitely deserved it. The movie was well acted and gives you a look at a side of life nobody would want to experience. I highly recommend it if you enjoy deep movies with a message.
Betty and I have been wanting to go back to Las Vegas for a short vacation. The last time we were there was our 5th wedding anniversary so it’s been almost 12 years. I get emails from a thing called Travelzoo which has good prices on various vacation type stuff. It had a deal for a room at the Signature by MGM for about half price. We were going to stay there but then we happened to look at a the Luxor and one of the rooms has a Spa built in. Betty really liked that idea and I’ve always wanted to stay at the Luxor so that’s where we will be going. We plan to drive over on August 29th and then back to LA on the 31st.
The day after we made reservations there Jocelyn contacted me about them coming out to Phoenix. She said they wanted to do it between Sep 1st and 8th and did I want to come over then? Heck yes we did!
We started thinking about where we would stay and what we would do and thought we could ask Heather to put us up for a few nights and maybe stay in a hotel for a few nights. I am a firm believer in the old saying that house guests are like fish. Both start smelling after a few days. I dislike asking someone to put us up for very long.
Then the night before last I was talking to Heather about the trip when it hit me that we could maybe see the Grand Canyon on our way from Vegas to Phoenix. I was looking at options and we could stay in the park, stay in Williams, or stay in Flagstaff. I’m leaning towards a night in the park but we’ll see.
Last night we looked at prices to see the Blue Man Group while in Vegas. It’s almost $100 a ticket. Not sure if we’ll do that but since Betty really wants to see them and we’ve never done a show in Vegas we probably will.
This will be the first time that just the 2 of us have gone on a trip this long. We are looking forward to it. And of course right in the middle of it is our 17th anniversary and Joce and Erics something something anniversary.
