3rd one is the charm(we hope)

You may think I’m talking about my 3rd grandchild just announced by Jocelyn on her blog but you would be wrong.  As excited as we are by that news(and we are, we were told a few weeks ago) it has been overshadowed by Betty needing another stent.  She has had no energy for several month and this morning she went for an angiogram.  That showed some blockage at the point where she had the first stent put in on July 4th, 2004 so they put in another one.  She’s staying overnight in the hospital and we think she’ll probably be home tomorrow.  Your thoughts and prayers are always appreciated.

Photos in the Widgets!

I’m so happy!  I’ve been wanting to get some sort of widget that would put a random picture from my Gallery in the Sidebar.  As you can see I now have one.  It is a Widget that allows you to put PHP in it and a line I found after much searching on how to get a random picture from Gallery.  Now to see if I can get it to put more than 1.

Ducks!

The Anaheim Ducks just won the Stanley Cup.  That’s for Hockey if you didn’t know.  This is the first time the cup has been won by a West coast team.  Woo hoo!

What’s a record?

If you talk to someone born after 1990 about playing records on a turntable they will probably look at you like you just spoke a foreign language.  For those of us who grew up getting our tunes from LPs and 45 it’s probably been a while since you’ve seen or heard one.   That all changed for me today and in a very cool way.

I’ve got about 200 records I’ve collected starting in the late 60s with Sonny and Cher’s In Case You’re in Love to sometime in the late 80s with who knows what.  I haven’t heard any of these records since I got married in 1994 because they have been hidden in the garage from hell.  Now that Jenny finally got it cleaned out we found the old records but alas how was I going to play said records since I don’t have a record player anymore.

What I really wanted to do was convert them to CD or MP3 so I could take them with me on my bike or in my car.  I thought about getting a turntable and hooking it to my sound card  but then I found this!

It’s a turntable made to copy your records to the computer using USB and software.  The software they include is Audacity which Daryl has mentioned on his blog and I have used for quite a while.

This thing is so cool!  I’ve converted a couple of albums so far and I plan to spend the weekend doing more.

Twice a minute

Filed under: Personal — don @ 12:48 pm

That’s how often the technician told me I was having an apnea during the first half of last night.  In case you haven’t researched it that’s a LOT!  They consider someone has a problem if they have more than 5 an hour.  I have 5 in under 3 minutes.  At least that explains why I’m tired in the morning.

At 1am I was fitted with a CPAP mask and then refitted every 10 minutes for the next hour and a half until we found one that sealed around my beard enough.   Once I got used to the feel I fell asleep around 2:30 and was awakened at 5am.  I haven’t had 2 1/2 hours of sleep that good in ages.  Now I’ve just got to get one for here at home.

8 weeks and 100 posts

It’s been 8 weeks since I quit smoking and this is the 100th post on my blog.  I don’t think there is any significance but I thought you might be interested.

I’m pretty much off my Chantix although the Dr. said I should keep taking it.  I keep forgetting in the morning and in the evening I’m afraid it’s going to make my OSA worse.

I haven’t been diagnosed with OSA yet but Betty and I are pretty sure I will be.  Oh yeah, OSA stands for Obstructive Sleep Apnea if you didn’t know.

I’ve been really tired all day every day for the last year at least and it’s gotten worse since I quit smoking and gained more weight.  When I told the Dr. he asked a couple of questions and the answers all point to sleep apnea.  We are trying to find a sleep lab so I can stay the night and get diagnosed.

If they confirm it they will set me up with a CPAP machine and hopefully my daytime tiredness will be a thing of the past.
