8 weeks and 100 posts

It’s been 8 weeks since I quit smoking and this is the 100th post on my blog.  I don’t think there is any significance but I thought you might be interested.

I’m pretty much off my Chantix although the Dr. said I should keep taking it.  I keep forgetting in the morning and in the evening I’m afraid it’s going to make my OSA worse.

I haven’t been diagnosed with OSA yet but Betty and I are pretty sure I will be.  Oh yeah, OSA stands for Obstructive Sleep Apnea if you didn’t know.

I’ve been really tired all day every day for the last year at least and it’s gotten worse since I quit smoking and gained more weight.  When I told the Dr. he asked a couple of questions and the answers all point to sleep apnea.  We are trying to find a sleep lab so I can stay the night and get diagnosed.

If they confirm it they will set me up with a CPAP machine and hopefully my daytime tiredness will be a thing of the past.

  1. It’s a good thing that you have good insurance. Make use of it!

  3. I work with a guy who keeps trying to quit. He’s been doing the nicotine patch/gum thing. I told him about how you have been successful with Chantix. He was very interested in your success and says he’ll have to try that. But also like you, he has sleep apnea, and wasn’t excited to hear how you had trouble sleeping. I hope he’ll give it a try though.

How’s your cough? (the one that finally scared you into quitting)

  4. My cough is pretty much non-existent now. If he has sleep apnea he really should check into a cpap machine. I’m so looking forward to getting a real nights sleep again.

  5. He had an overnight sleep study but said they didn’t find anything conclusive they could treat, and he wasn’t keen on using a cpap. He knows quitting smoking would probably help.

  6. When you smell smoke now, does it tempt you or repel you?

  7. When I smell smoke it sometimes smells good and sometimes not. It certainly doesn’t tempt me but I don’t think it repels me either.

  11. I’m currently on a C-Pap and have been on Chantix for about 5 weeks, 2.5 weeks smoke-free. I think the Chantix is lessening the effectiveness of my C-Pap.

Did you have overlap between stopping the Chantix and using your C-Pap?

  12. I had stopped taking the Chantix by the time I started using the CPAP. I didn’t take the Chantix for near as long as my doctor wanted me to.
