It was the largest quake we’ve had since the 1999 Landers/Big Bear and it was felt by a lot of people. We had a few pictures fall but the funniest thing I think I’ve ever seen was these bananas that got peeled by the shaking.

HowMuchMileage.com
That’s the name of my new website. I’ve been thinking about ways to use the internet to make a little extra money and it hit me that the price of gas is a pretty big topic right now. Most people would like to save money on gas and/or get better mileage. I started thinking of names that might work for a domain name and tried out a few before finding howmuchmileage was available. I went ahead and purchased it and I’ve spent the last week or so setting up the website and it’s ready for people to look at now.
It’s still a bit slim as far as content but I’m hoping some people might register for the forum and start posting ideas for links and/or just ideas to help the site grow.
I know most of my family is running Firefox with AdBlock so you don’t see the ads but there are several there. I’ve also got some on this site trying to see how they work.
If you see an ad that interests you click on it but please don’t click for clicking sake. Google frowns on that.

Grandkid Fix!
Betty and I went to the San Diego area this weekend to get a grandkid fix. We met up with Heather, Mark, Camden, and Carsten in Cardiff By the Sea on Saturday and went to the Model Railroad Museum in Balboa Park. Then we went to Point Loma, and then back to The Fish Market for dinner. After that we went back to the hotel and sat in the jacuzzi. Mark went to the store and got us all some ice cream before we played Trouble!
This morning we got up and ate then left the area. We stopped to see Richard at San Onofre and then cam home after lunch.
Betty has lots of pictures which I’m sure she will post soon.

Where am I again?
We were in Trader Joe’s tonight getting some Clam Chowder when they made an announcement over the PA system. They said, “If you would like to see some rare weather for LA go look outside. It’s hailing.”
We went to the front of the store and sure enough it was hailing pretty heavy. We watched for a few minutes and it got heavier. We finally got into the car because it wasn’t slowing down. It stopped a few blocks down the street after we left.
We expected stuff like this when we were in Wisconsin but not here.

Chicago
We came down to the Chicago area yesterday and spent the night in a La Quinta in Schaumburg. Schaumburg is about 35 miles from downtown Chicago and a bit north of O’Hare. Today we drove in to go to the Sears Tower and the Museum of Science and Industry.
They were both interesting but the museum was by far the best value. The Sears Tower costs $12.50 per person and if you park in the close-by structure it’s $10 the first hour and $8 the next. Of course they have it timed so you can’t see it in under an hour so you end up paying $18 for parking and $25 for two people to go up and walk around the skydeck for 10 minutes then back down.
I don’t mind the cost as long as I don’t have to do it more than once. I went up in the Empire State building but didn’t do the WTC before it came down. I understand there are now 2 or 3 buildings that are taller.
The MS&T was really nice. We didn’t spend near as much time as it would require to do it right but what we saw was great. They have a German U-Boat that was captured during WWII. Quite interesting. There was a lot of other stuff and much we didn’t see.
I don’t know if we’ll ever be back but if so we won’t spend money on the tower.

Liam! Kenosha!
We arrived yesterday. We went to eat at Applebees and then we went back to the hotel. Today we picked up Joce and went to Jelly Belly and the Mars Cheese Castle. Then we went to see Lake Michigan and drove by Franks Diner, a Kenosha landmark. Tonight we went to a Chinese restaurant and then back to the hotel. Joce sent me this pic of Liam tonight.
Tomorrow we are going to play it by ear.
See my Gallery for pics from our trip so far.

Thanks Donna!
Pasta e Fagioli is what Donna wrote about a week or so ago. She said it was really good and would be even better with sausage. I decided she was probably right and made it tonight. It was really, really good.
