Friday again

I love Fridays. I usually get home from work around 4pm and it’s such a relief to have 2 WHOLE days ahead of me where I don’t have to fight the rat race unless I want to. Since I’ve been riding the bike I get home anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes faster than I did in the truck. Although that helps a lot the stress of lane splitting(LS) up the 405 might offset it. I do better than I did the first few times but it’s still not a lot of fun.

I do miss having my coffee on the way to work but the coffee shop in our building serves Starbucks. I didn’t realize it but Starbucks is pretty darn good. It’s not bitter and it wakes me up without giving me the jitters(as long as I keep it to 1 cup).I’ve noticed there are 3 types of drivers when it comes to LS. Most of them don’t move at all. Some of them move out of the way. And once in a while you come upon a jerk that actually moves towards you to keep you from passing. I have no idea why they do that except for maybe dog-in-the-manger syndrome. They can’t get ahead and they don’t want anyone else to either.

  1. I love lanesplitting. When traffic is lined up just right, there’s all the lanes of car traffic and then there’s my own personal motorcycle lane right down the middle. Sometimes it’s so pretty it almost glows. But, yeah, every once in awhile there’s a jerk who actively tries to block you from splitting past him. I always thank these guys with a taste of my boot in their door as I pass them — because no matter how hard they try to stop me, I do pass them eventually. And I want them to remember me. One guy who *really* pissed me off, I kicked his side-view mirror off as I went by. But I don’t recommend that tactic — it really threw me off balance and I almost went down. Oops.

  2. I don’t think I could bring myself to give them a boot but sometimes I want to. Like you say, you always get past them, it’s just a matter of time. I got home today in about 50 minutes which is faster than I EVER get home in a 4 wheeled vehicle.

The second time I lanesplit I actually bumped a guy’s mirror with mine. He honked and I sped up. I try to keep from doing that now. It took me several days to get it adjusted right. 😉

  3. Is Lane Splitting legal in CA?

  4. Yes it is. I have followed police bikes up the 405 several times. I think it’s one of the few states it is legal.

  5. I hope you at least wear a helmet! (Don’t tell me if you don’t … I don’t want to know.)

  6. Yes I wear a helmet. That is the law in CA. I would wear one even if it wasn’t.
