Fair and Balanced?

Filed under: Politics — don @ 8:33 am

We keep going back and forth about whether the media is liberal or not. I hope this little study by the Pew Reserch Center helps.

What the???

Filed under: Politics — don @ 8:14 am

Obama has been saying he’s going to lower taxes on anyone making less than $250,000 since he started this campaign. Then last night in his Obomamercial he used the number $200,000.

For those of you who can actually count this means he’s already moved the bar on what he considers rich down about $50,000. Joe Biden is now using the number $150,000 to describe rich.

But for those of you who make less than $50,000 don’t worry, it will probably be months before he gets it down to you.

Can you say liar?

There is a great column over at Semicolon. Read what Obama has said over the years.

Dems or Repubs

Filed under: Politics — don @ 5:21 pm

Daryl has been telling us how much better the economy does under Democrats than Republicans. In an effort to be as fair as possible I took the liberty of checking on the closing price of the Dow 30 Industrials for the first 6 years Bush was in office but had a Republican majority in Congress. Then in 2006 there was an election where the Democrats took over both houses of Congress. Here’s the daily closing Dow value for those 2 periods. Hmmm. I wonder what this means?

Let’s see, September 11th, 2001 happened in the very first part of Bush’s term. I wonder what that other stuff means?

What my 4 daughters want

Filed under: Politics — don @ 5:25 pm

Four of them want Obama. I suspect they don’t understand the implications. I suspect they think it will bring money into their pockets and take it out of the pockets of the rich. Yep, and that’s what they want.

The only problem with that is once you increase taxes on the people who run the companies where do you think they are going to go to recoup that loss?

If you said “they will raise their prices so it will come from us”, go to the head of the class.

Do you really think the “rich” got that way by giving away their money? Do you really think they will just shrug and pay the higher taxes without passing it on? If you do then you are even more naive than I think.

Oh you say, Obama won’t let them increase their prices. Obama will “regulate” the prices they can charge.

There are already a few countries where that happens. Those countries practice Socialism and they are a dying breed. Even Russia isn’t a Socialist country anymore.

If you really think Obama just wants to “spread the wealth around” here’s a little thing for you to listen to.

My Buddy Grace

Grace Davis is a very nice lady who has a fairly popular blog. She has done a ton of good stuff and cares for her fellow man. During Katrina she set up a web site where people could help the victims. She’s a really great lady.

Here’s the rub. She’s a Liberal. Yes, I know, how could Don ever like a Liberal. Well, truth be told Don has 5 daughters/stepdaughters and every one of them except 1 plans to vote for Obama. In spite of that misguided and clueless behavior I still love every one of them and that’s how I can like Grace.

Grace has always been a staunch supporter of all things Liberal but lately she’s done something that surprises me. She decided she was going to delete any comments from her blog that don’t jive with her love of Obama. In her latest post she says of anyone who disagrees with her the following:

“I wish to inform you Haters and Doubters that I will be deleting your Hating and Doubting comments on my blog, should you deign to post such remarks.”

This seems to me to be exactly what the Liberals accuse the Republicans of doing. I keep hearing how Liberals are so open to ideas and how Conservatives are strict and closed and “haters” and will step on any rights you think you have.

Well Grace, here’s one Conservative who doesn’t care if people from the opposing side post on my blog. If you post words that I prefer my reading audience not see I will probably edit that but I won’t change your fundamental ideas. But I will allow anyone’s ideas, no matter how stupid, to exist in my comments.

I love Illegals

Filed under: Politics — don @ 1:13 pm

Issue: Homeland Security chief Michael Chertoff called then-Gov. Elliot Spitzer in October 2007, warning his plan to grant driver’s licenses to illegals would undermine federal plans to enhance security. Spitzer withdrew the plan two weeks later.

[Source: The New York Times, Oct. 31, 2007]

Issue: During the Democratic presidential debate held in Las Vegas in November 2007, moderator Wolf Blitzer asked Obama if he supported driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants. Obama answered: "Yes."

[Source: Debate transcript, Nov. 15, 2007, Las Vegas]

Issue: Obama also addressed the licensing of illegals during the October 2007 debate. Asked if he favored Spitzer’s plan, Obama replied: "I think that it is the right idea. And I disagree with [Sen.] Chris [Dodd], because there is a public safety concern. We can make sure that drivers who are illegal come out of the shadows, that they can be tracked, that they are properly trained, and that will make our roads safer. That doesn’t negate the need for us to reform illegal immigration."

[Source: Debate transcript, Drexel University, Philadelphia, Pa., Oct. 30, 2007]

Issue: The 19 terrorists involved in 9/11 obtained 13 driver’s licenses, as well as 21 federal or state-issued ID cards. Eight of the 9/11 terrorists were registered to vote.

[Source: Wall Street Journal column by John Fund, Nov. 2, 2007]

Issue: The day Gov. Spitzer withdrew his driver’s license plan, Clinton released this statement: "I support Governor Spitzer’s decision today to withdraw his proposal. His difficult job is made that much harder by the failure of the Congress and the White House to pass comprehensive immigration reform.

"As president, I will not support driver’s licenses for undocumented people, and will press for comprehensive immigration reform that deals with all of the issues around illegal immigration including border security and fixing our broken system."

[Source: Hillary Clinton statement dated Nov. 14, 2007]

Issue: A full 77 percent of American adults oppose granting driver’s licenses to people who are in the United States illegally.

[Source: Rasmussen Reports, national telephone survey, November 2007]

Issue: There are 203 million licensed drivers in America, according to the Federal Highway Administration. Approximately 1 in 5 fatal car accidents involves a driver who, for whatever reason, does not have a valid driver’s license.

[Source: "Outrageous! Cracking Down on Illegal Drivers"
by Michael Crowley, Readers Digest, September 2008]

Issue: Sen. John McCain’s online policy statements do not specifically address driver’s licenses for illegals. McCain is on record, however, opposing any benefits for those who "have come here illegally and broke our laws."

In one speech he pledged, "It would be among my highest priorities to secure our borders first, and only after we achieved widespread consensus that our borders are secure, would we address other aspects of the problem in a way that defends the rule of law and does not encourage another wave of illegal immigration."

[Source: Feb. 7, 2008 speech to the Conservative Political Action Conference, CPAC]

Issue: In February, Obama told ABC’s David Muir, "If [McCain] wants to try to parse out this one issue of driver’s licenses, an issue of public safety, my response is that we have to solve the overall problem and this driver’s license issue is a distraction."

[Source: "Obama Defends Illegals’ Driver’s Licenses," ABC.com]

Issue: When he served as a member of the Illinois state Senate, Obama voted to train, insure, and license illegals to operate motor vehicles in order to "protect public safety."
