New Phone

Filed under: Cool Stuff — don @ 7:50 pm

Yay!  I bit the bullet and got the Samsung S4.

Since the company pays for my phone they allowed us to get whichever we wanted.  We won’t be able to upgrade for 2 years so I hope the S4 lasts that long.

It’s a pretty cool phone.  It has all kinds of nifty features that the iPhone (and most other smart phones) doesn’t have.

I’m not sure which is my favorite of the “cool” features and it’s going to take a little getting used to not having an iPhone but I’m glad I made the switch.

As I discover neat things about it I’ll put them in the comments.

In the meantime here’s a link to the hype

  1. Congrats! Looking forward to more reports.

  2. I think Air View is my favorite so far. On the Email and Message screen you put your finger above a line and it shows you most of the message or email in a bubble.

Air gestures is interesting but so far I haven’t figured out if they are really cool or just a waste of battery.

  3. Nice. I won’t get a phone with a contract any more, and the unlocked Nexus 4 is only half this price, so that’s what I’m replacing my stolen phone with.

  4. Just curious but why will you not get one with a contract? Isn’t it much cheaper as long as you don’t update your phone more than once every 2 years?

At any rate I’m paying much less since my company pays for it all. 😉

  5. I only pay $30 a month for my service, and that includes unlimited data. That pays for an unlocked phone pretty quickly, and I’m free to quit or change providers whenever I want, with no ETF (early termination fee).

  6. That’s a pretty good deal then. Perhaps I should have Betty do that when her contract is up in a few months.

  7. Are you with Verizon now? Do you have unlimited data? How’s the data speed? Do you think it beats AT&T?

  8. No, still with AT&T.

The company pays and we get 10GB for everyone with AT&T but most are with Verizon. Last month we used 6.5GB. If we go over they pay but would rather we not.

I went with AT&T because supposedly their 4G LTE is faster in Los Angeles than Verizon.

  9. So, after 3 months, what do you think of Android? How does it compare with iOS? Are you glad you made the switch?

  10. Yes I am glad I made the switch.

I think the S4 is every bit as polished as the iPhone and having the ability to load anything I want on the phone without Apple looking over my shoulder is nice.

The phone is large but it doesn’t really feel that large after you’ve used it for a while. The iPhone feels like a toy to me now.

  11. The reason I asked is I read today that Android had 79% of the market share last quarter and Apple had 13%. Looks like lots of people are making the switch. I’ll be interested to see what the new iPhone this fall looks like. I’m due for an upgrade.
