Station Fire Smoke

Filed under: Life — don @ 5:52 pm

Here are a couple of pictures of the smoke from the Station fire. The first one is looking northeast towards the Angeles Forest and the fire itself.

This next one is to the northwest. You can see the “edge” of the smoke. It’s actually smoky everywhere but you can kind of see the sky in the far west. We can’t even see the mountains at the north end of the valley. This is one of the worst visual days I can remember.

  1. Crazy! Reminds me of our time we were there and evacuated.

  2. Yeah we go through something like this almost every year. Some are better and some are worse. The year you evacuated it was actually worse down south of us. This year it’s north of us.

  3. I don’t believe I’ve heard what started this one?

  4. I haven’t heard for sure but today they did say it was man caused.

  5. I heard today that they have determined that it was arson. There will be a homicide investigation.

Devon, in northern Pasadena, says the smoke is very bad there, though the wind is blowing away from him so it’s not bad on the ground. He was concerned about having to evacuate, but I think he is clearly far enough into the urban area that the fire is not likely to be a threat. Most of the endangered houses are on the edge of the forest and brush, as I understand.

  6. I had forgotten about Devon in Pasadena. Yeah if he had been asked to evacuate it would have been for health reasons and not concern about fire. Betty’s sister out in Santa Clarita left the house for a day because of it(or at least that’s what their plan was on Wednesday).

I’ve noticed the national media always seems to make it sound like the whole area is on fire when it’s usually a fairly small area. This last one was pretty big though.
