Retired

Filed under: Life — don @ 3:45 pm

I am now officially retired. That doesn’t mean I’m done working but it does mean I’m taking some time off.

It felt really strange coming home yesterday knowing I don’t have a job. I would be very scared if I didn’t have 2 things going for me. One, I’ve got a really good pension from Hughes/Boeing. Two, I’ve got a pretty good skill from those 21 1/2 years at Hughes/Boeing so I will be able to work again in a few months.

I’m taking off at the very least 2 or 3 months and the most 5 or 6. I’ll probably get bored soon but I do have some stuff to keep me busy around here. I’ve got a bathroom that needs to be painted and have a new floor and I’ve got a workbench in my garage that I haven’t seen in years.

I also think I will take my wife to Hawaii in a few months. We would like to see it before we aren’t able to.

  2. 21 1/2 years! I worked for Intel about 18 years, and it felt very strange when I left. You don’t realize how much it is a part of your life until it’s gone. Now when I go back in the buildings it’s a very strange mixture of nostalgia and “boy am I glad I’m not here anymore”.

Congratulations on moving on to the next phase of your life. Keep busy with something you like to do.
