Fundamentally Transforming America

Five days before the election Barack Obama made a speech. In that speech he made a statement that many of us didn’t really listen to. Here it is.

If what he has done in the last 6 months doesn’t chill you to your bones you are either not paying attention or you advocate making this country something that it has never been and was never intended to be. The framers of our constitution are rolling over in their graves from what this man is doing.

If you are in agreement with what he’s doing I can’t help you but if you don’t want the kind of “Change” that you’re seeing I ask that you start watching The Glenn Beck Show on Fox at 5 pm Eastern. You might just get your eyes opened.

Notice I tagged this as personal and life and not politics. This goes beyond politics. This goes to the core of what America will become if we do nothing.

Bees!

We had bees! We actually still have them but they should be gone later tonight.

A few weeks ago we noticed a few bees buzzing around an old wooden box we had out back. I went over and opened it to look inside and didn’t see anything. Then about a week ago Ann and Jenny saw some of them buzzing around near the same box but this time there were a lot. Now we must take an intermission.

While growing up in Tucson and going to Flowing Wells I had a friend named Roger Taylor. He was with me from Kindergarten on up and graduated with me but I hadn’t seen him since then. A few weeks ago I learned of a web site that is getting my class together for a reunion later this year. On that site was a map that shows where everyone is. Roger showed up as being in the San Fernando Valley not far from me. I happened to exchange some messages with Lynette McGee who is still in touch with Roger and Mike Keller, another school mate. They got a message to Roger to contact me so he did and we met for lunch. I found out he is also interested in riding quads so I invited him to Pismo over this last weekend. At that time I found out he was also a beekeeper. Now back to the bee story.

When we got back from Pismo we decided he should come and get the bees so today he did. I learned some interesting things and got some great pics. Here’s one and the rest are in my gallery.

The Garden of Don & Patrick

Patrick and I put in a garden today. It’s not very big and that’s the way we wanted it. I’ve had gardens off and on most of my adult life but it has been a while since my last one. I figured I have the time so I asked Patrick if he would like to help. He jumped at the chance so we did it this afternoon. It’s got tomatos, peppers, cucumber, squash, and some herbs.

My Buddy Grace

Grace Davis is a very nice lady who has a fairly popular blog. She has done a ton of good stuff and cares for her fellow man. During Katrina she set up a web site where people could help the victims. She’s a really great lady.

Here’s the rub. She’s a Liberal. Yes, I know, how could Don ever like a Liberal. Well, truth be told Don has 5 daughters/stepdaughters and every one of them except 1 plans to vote for Obama. In spite of that misguided and clueless behavior I still love every one of them and that’s how I can like Grace.

Grace has always been a staunch supporter of all things Liberal but lately she’s done something that surprises me. She decided she was going to delete any comments from her blog that don’t jive with her love of Obama. In her latest post she says of anyone who disagrees with her the following:

“I wish to inform you Haters and Doubters that I will be deleting your Hating and Doubting comments on my blog, should you deign to post such remarks.”

This seems to me to be exactly what the Liberals accuse the Republicans of doing. I keep hearing how Liberals are so open to ideas and how Conservatives are strict and closed and “haters” and will step on any rights you think you have.

Well Grace, here’s one Conservative who doesn’t care if people from the opposing side post on my blog. If you post words that I prefer my reading audience not see I will probably edit that but I won’t change your fundamental ideas. But I will allow anyone’s ideas, no matter how stupid, to exist in my comments.

Jenny’s New Car

Jenny got a new car last week. She’s been driving one of ours ever since her last car, our old Ford Contour, seized up. The new one is a Suzuki SX4 Sport. It’s quite nice.

Chicago

We came down to the Chicago area yesterday and spent the night in a La Quinta in Schaumburg. Schaumburg is about 35 miles from downtown Chicago and a bit north of O’Hare. Today we drove in to go to the Sears Tower and the Museum of Science and Industry.

They were both interesting but the museum was by far the best value. The Sears Tower costs $12.50 per person and if you park in the close-by structure it’s $10 the first hour and $8 the next. Of course they have it timed so you can’t see it in under an hour so you end up paying $18 for parking and $25 for two people to go up and walk around the skydeck for 10 minutes then back down.

I don’t mind the cost as long as I don’t have to do it more than once. I went up in the Empire State building but didn’t do the WTC before it came down. I understand there are now 2 or 3 buildings that are taller.

The MS&T was really nice. We didn’t spend near as much time as it would require to do it right but what we saw was great. They have a German U-Boat that was captured during WWII. Quite interesting. There was a lot of other stuff and much we didn’t see.

I don’t know if we’ll ever be back but if so we won’t spend money on the tower.
