manElihu Dowd AUSTIN‏
Born ‎21 May 1824 at Pittsford, Monroe, NY, died ‎24 Oct 1908 at Farmersville, Cattaraugus, NY‎, 84 years
Was practically blind for the last ten yrs. of his life.
Conflict--EAM gives b. date of 7 May 1825 on p 155 and 21 May 1824 on p 236. Cemetery marker in Farmersville says 21 May 1825.
EAM attributes the "log cabin story in Hog Hollow" to Willliam on p 155 and also to his son Elihu on p 237.
Elihu was considered to be "a man of little energy, without financial ability, and who claimed to be in ill health". This was further authenticated by Oren Wright and Mary Law, who in their affadavit said: "Elihu Austin did little work, was in fact lazy, or as he claimed in poor health, and the earnings of Jane Austin and deceased
soldier son, Zina, were necessary for the support of the family."
