By 1850 Thomas and his brother, John, had both settled in Allen Twp, Hillsdale Co. MI, his family included himself, age 57, farmer, born in RI, his wife, Elizabeth, 50, born in NY, and son James, 16 farmer, born in NY.

The 1860 census for Allen has:
Thos. REMiNGTON, 66, farmer, born in RI, Elizabeth, 60, born in NJ, Minerva, 14, attending school, b. MI; Peter Marsh, 14, attending school, born in Ind, and Ian (female) 6/12, born in MI. Four years later his wife Elizabeth died.

By 1870, he was living with J. C. REMINGTON in Allen; he was 77 years old and worked as a railroad hand. He died there four years later, a widower at age 81, of congestion of the lungs.
