15 Jun 1728-- Providence--he and his wife Sarah deeded youngest son James, for love, etc. part of farm where I now live.

25 Apr 1738--He and wife Sarah deeded son-in-law Daniel Colvin, and Zipporah his wife, our daughter, 50 acres. adjoining land we gave our son-in-law John Blanchard and Sarah his wife..

Will dated 20 Mar 1755 and proved 13 Aug 1757, pgs 53-54. Executor, son-in-law Daniel Colvin. To oldest son John, 1s. To son James, 1s.. To seven daughters: rest of moveables, viz: Rose BURLINGAME, Mary COLVEN, Anne BURLINGAME, Susannah FISK, Elizabeth ABBOTT, Ziporah COLViN and Frances COLVIN. Two granddaughters: Elizabeth BRIGGS and Sarah BLANCHARD. Son-in-law: Daniel COLVIN (spelled with an "I"). His will was recorded in Cranston. --Mary's husband's name was spelled with an (E), but seems to have been the same person. To granddaughters Elizabeth BRIGGS and Sarah BLANCHARD, an equal part with one of aforesaid daughters.

BURLINGAME son's in law probably named Joshua and Israel, but not known which one married which of James' daughters. All names from Rhode Island Genealogical Register, Vol 3, No. 3, Abstracts Cranston Wills Page 238

22 Apr 1757 Representations were made to town council of Cranston, by James Briggs, Jr. and Joshua Burlingame of Cranston, Benjamin Fiske, of Scituate and Daniel Colvin, of Coventry, that James Briggs,Sr. "is now grown very ancient, decrippled and helpless, and much impaired in his eyesight, understanding and memory. (Sounds like Alzheimer's. EL 2005) The council appointed his grandson, Moses BRIGGS, as guardian, and inventory of his estate was taken, amounting to 613£ 2s Feather bed, etc 120£, linen wheel, 2 silver spoons, etc.

On April 22, 1737 representations were made by James Briggs, Jr., Joshua Burlingame of Cranston, Benjamin Fiske of Scitulate, and Daniel Colvin of Coventry that James Briggs Sr. "is now grown very ancient, decrippled, and helpless and much impaired in his eyesight in his understanding and memory." The council appointed his grandson Moses Briggs guardian.
