Co NY, 87 years, buried 5 Nov 1933 at Rural Cemetery, Allegany Co, NY Obituaries: Last Friday morning at 4:30 o'clock, occured the passing from life for Mrs. Abbie Fish, aged 87 years, at her home, Vine Cottage, on Putnam Avenue, this village. Keen of intellect and with a sense of humor fossessed by few, Mrs. Fish enjoyed life fully. She was a great reader and retained many choice bits of verse to impart to her friends. She was young in spirit and enjoyed having young folk about her. She wa active and about her home until Sunday October 29,1933 when she was stricken with a shock of paralysis from which she never rallied, although everything possible was done and the best care lavished upon her by family and friends. The writer knew her as a kind helpful friend and one ready to assist whenever and wherever possible. Hers was a dominant spirit that bowed to none and asked few favors, yet she was ever ready to welcome to her home any and all of a large circle of friends and acquaintances. Mrs. Fish is the last of a family of seven children. She is survived by the following children: Mrs. Etta Spicer, Beach Hill, Editor W.D. Fish, of Coudersport and Mrs. Ruhama Petterson of Akron, O., besides a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren and nephews and nieces. The funeral, held Sunday, Nov. 5, 1933, at 2 P.M. from the late home, was attended by a large number of friends. Interment was in Rural Cemetery, Whitesville, Allegany Co, NY in the family plot, Rev. Clara Morgan of Cohocton, NY officiating and Fred Wildman directing. SPICER of this village, Mrs. Florence McGINTY of Hornell, and Mrs. Fred PATTERSON of Akron, Ol, and one son, W.D. FISH of Coudersport, PA, survive, as does one brother, Frank B. FISH of Stannards. The funeral was held from the house at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon, June 2nd and interment was made in Rural Cemeterry, Rev. R.S. Kellerman officiating. At the cemetery the body was borne to the grave by seven grandsons, (the sons of Mr. and Mrs. D.G. Spicer.) Ranse, as he was familiarly known about town, was a carpenter of no mean ability, a man who took great pride in doing his work in workmanlike manner. He was a big, whole-souled man who had the respect of all who were privileged to know him. He was an active member of Sawyer Post, G.A.R., until it was disbanded and he made it a duty to (until this year) see that every soldier's grave bore its flag for Decoration Day, but this year he ws just entering his last rest and others had to take up his work where he laid it down. She lived in Pittsburgh, PA and Minneapolis, Minn. for years, but for the past ten years had made her home in Hornell with her daughter, Mrs. Abbie Burr. She had been in ill health for the past year. Beside her mother and daughter, deceased is survived by two sisters, Mrs. D.G. Spicer of Beach Hill, Mrs. Fred Petterson of Akron, Ohio, and one abrother, W. D. Fish of Coudersport, PA Farewell services are held today, Thursday, at 2 PM from the home of Mrs. Fish. Rev. Clara Morgan of Hornell and Rev. C.L. Paddock officiating and Fred Wildman in charge.
