NY, died Jun 1895 at Plover, Portage WI, 84 years, buried at Maine Cemetery, below Plover Village. 1844-was a saw mill owner, and tax payer. 17 Aug 1850-lived in Bradford, McKean, PA Steven's Point Gazette- 10 Jun 1895 ALLEN WHITTAKER DEAD A pioneer resident of Portage County, Allen Whittaker, died at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. A. Stoddard, in the town of Eau Pleine, near Dancy, at 1:30 last Sunday morning. He was a very aged gentleman but had always enjoyed good health and the end came after a very short and brief illness. The deceased was born in Cattaraugus County, NY Aug. 13, 1810 and was nearly 85 years of age. He came west in 1863, locating in the town of Plover, where he lived until last fall, after the death of a maiden daughter, when he went to live with Mrs. Stoddard. His wife died four years ago. He leaves but two children, Mrs. Stoddard and Mrs. Geo. Allenburg, both in Dancy. Mr. Whittaker was a most estimable old gentleman and his memory will be kept long by those who knew him best. The remains were brought to the town of Plover on Monday, services being held in the Berry school at 2 o'clock that afternoon, Rev. Mr. Olsen officiating. The pallbearers were Jas. Isherwood, Nels Newby, Moses Puarlea, John Gilman, Wm. Newby and Ed Taylor. 2. Lavantia WHITAKERBorn 8 Mar 1824 at Catt. Co. NY, died 10 Aug 1912 at Bradford, McKean, PA, 88 years, buried 13 Aug 1912 at Willow Dale Cemetery, Bradford, McKean Co. PA From The Bradford Era--Mon--12 Aug 1912 MRS. SANFORD DEAD Mrs. Lavantia Sanford died Saturday afternoon at 6:00 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F.W. Davis, No 111 Jackson Avenue. Mrs. Sanford had lived to the advanced age of 88 years and had resided in this valley for the past 74 years. Her parents, in Pioneer days, came from Olean and located near Limestone, making the journey in a canoe on the Allegheny River and up the Tuna. Deceased was a member of the Hill Memorial Church and was a woman of most estimable qualities. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. F.W. Davis, two granddaughters, Mrs Mary Hagg of Toledo, Ohio and Mrs. Edward Adams of this city. The funeral services will be held at the Davis residence this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Interment at Oak Hill cemetery. The Bradford Era--Tue--13 Aug, 1912 Funeral services over the late Mrs. Lavantia Sanford were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F.W. Davis yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Rev. J.H. Yaggy officiating. A quartette composed of Mrs. A. McAlpin, Mrs. Klopp, G.W. Sweigert and W.A. Palmer, sang "The Christian's Good Night Song", "Abide with Me" and "Jesus, Lover of My Soul". The interment was made in Oak Hill Cemetery. The pall bearers were H.H. Osgood, C.I. Foust, R. Being one of the old residents and a man of large family, the funeral was unusually well attended considering the weather. |
