SANFORD DEAD Mrs. Lavantia Sanford died Saturday afternoon at 6:00 o'clock at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F.W. Davis, No 111 Jackson Avenue. Mrs. Sanford had lived to the advanced age of 88 years and had resided in this valley for the past 74 years. Her parents, in Pioneer days, came from Olean and located near Limestone, making the journey in a canoe on the Allegheny River and up the Tuna. Deceased was a member of the Hill Memorial Church and was a woman of most estimable qualities. She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. F.W. Davis, two granddaughters, Mrs Mary Hagg of Toledo, Ohio and Mrs. Edward Adams of this city. The funeral services will be held at the Davis residence this afternoon at 3 o'clock. Interment at Oak Hill cemetery. The Bradford Era--Tue--13 Aug, 1912 Funeral services over the late Mrs. Lavantia Sanford were held at the home of her daughter, Mrs. F.W. Davis yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock, Rev. J.H. Yaggy officiating. A quartette composed of Mrs. A. McAlpin, Mrs. Klopp, G.W. Sweigert and W.A. Palmer, sang "The Christian's Good Night Song", "Abide with Me" and "Jesus, Lover of My Soul". The interment was made in Oak Hill Cemetery. The pall bearers were H.H. Osgood, C.I. Foust, R. Beers, Chicago, 1890 `George Sanford, retired, Bradford, is one of the few men now living in that city who have watched the development of McKean Co. from a wilderness to its present state of thriving villages and towns. In the early days he cut logs, rolled them into the creek at Bradford, and took them thence to the river, and so on to Cincinnati, Ohio, having made thirty trips to and from that city on such business. He wa born in Columbia Co. NY., Jan 23 1810, a son of John and Hannah (Hicks) Sanford, natives of New York, of English descent. He was reared a farmer, but after he attained his majority learned the carpenter's trade, at which he worked in adddition to farming. He came to McKean Co in 1838, and here bought considerable land (a part of which was afterward within the corporation limits of Bradford), which, at the time of the oil boom, he leased for several years, and several good producing wells were drilled on his land. He has sold a number of lots, but still owns twelve acres within the city limits. Mr. Sanford was married July 32, 1841, to Lavantia Whittaker, a native of Rochester, NY daughter of Jonathan and Betsy (Lafferty) Whitaker. They have two children: Albina T (wife of F.W. Davis) and Emily R. (wife of Frank P. Wentworth). In politics, Mr. Sanford is a Republican. The Bradford Era-Mon-20 Apr 1896 RECENT DEATHS George Sanford died at his home, 9 Sanford St. Saturday afternoon at 4:40, aged 86 years. Deceased was well known and highly respected and had resided in this city and vicinity since 1838. He was born in Columbia Co, NY on Jan 23, 1810 and leaves to mourn his loss a wife and two daughters, Mrs. J.W. Davis of this city and Mrs. F.P. Wentworth of Toledo, OH.
