Samuel DUNBAR, son of Peter DUNBAR and Sarah THAXTER. Born 11 May 1704 at Bridgewater, Plymouth Co. MA, died 7 Apr 1786 at West Bridgewater, Plymouth Co. MA, 81 years Settled in the ministry at Stoughton, MA. In 1748, he preached the annual election sermon before the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company, which was printed. Samuel DUNBAR was graduated at Harvard College in 1723, and was ordained pastor of the First Parish of Stroughton in 1727, where he remained in faithful service for fifty-five years, until his death, 15 Jun 1783. There was no other religious society in all the territory of the First Parish of Stroughton, being that territory now included in and forming the town of Canton. Paul Revere, at the age of twenty-one, accompanied Col Gridley to Crown Point in 1755-56, and asisted in the struggle then going on. Rev. His brother Simeon and his brother-in-law, Daniel Snow, were witnesses to the deed dated 03 Mar 1790 (Bristol Co. Deeds 68:408). On 13 Apr 1789, Caleb and Hannah sold for £34 seven acres in the south precinct of Bridgewater to Peter Dunbar. This property joined the north side of Peter's homestead (Plymouth Co. Deeds 165-224). Caleb and his family arrived at Eaton, Madison Co. NY in 1799 (James Hadden Smith, History of Madison County, NY 1784-1880 [Syracuse, NY; 1880] xx; Register [1977] 131:195n). He purchased 107 1/2 acres of land in Hamilton, Madison Co while still "of Easton, Bristol County, Massachusetts" on 28 May 1799 (Madison Co. Deeds D:157). After Caleb died Samuel Guild of Easton was appointed guardian 08 Apr 1814 "to Joseph, George, John, Patty, all children of Caleb Dunbar and Hannah his wife, late of Pompey, Madison Co.
