"...settle on the old homestead. Aug. 9 1864 he enlisted in Co I, 189th NY Reg, accompanied the regiment to the Welden Railroad where he was sick and taken to the hospital and discharged Jan 17 1865. He was a farmer ever after. He was a member of the Sawyer Post GAR (Grand Army of the Republic)."
