Almond) pertaining to his brother Arthur 13 yrs and Bertha sister 10 years. It appears he was attempting to obtain guardianship with relationship to their share of their fathers pension and land. "That no general guardian has been appointed and that the said Mary Moses their mother is an unfit person to be the guardian of the said "infants" being a ?? of bad moral character and at present living in free adultery with one JOHN THIELGES" May 28, 1889 Mary was appointed guardian and Wm. M. Lane and Jacob S. Van Dusen named as "sureters" for bond. 13 Jun 1889 Mary was given final guardianship. 21 Jun 1889 another petition filed indicates Mary married John Theigles and George W. Blackman was appointed as general guardian for minor children. 23 Oct 1892 George W. Blackman and wife Alice appointed as "suretys" Her obituary: Mary Moses died at the home of her son, Edwin S. Moses in the Rawson cheese Factory last night about 11:30. She was ill only a few days with congestion of the lungs, but she suffered from organic heart trouble and that vital organ wa too weak to withstand the attack. Mary Lafferty was born on Rush Creek in the town of Rushford about 60 years ago. She married Lafayette Moses who died in May, 1884. Four children survive--Claude D. of Shinglehouse, PA., Edwin S. of Rawson, Arthur L. of Hazelton, PA, and Bertha Thompson of Pratts Mills. Two sisters and two brothers survive--Mrs. Irving Clark and Riley and Homer Lafferty of Rush Creek and Mrs. John Berry of Cuba. Mrs. Moses was an excellent woman, always cheerful and kind hearted, and ready to help those who were sick or in trouble. She had been a member of the Rushford F.M. Church for several years and her life wa filled with good deeds. The past four years she had kept house for her son, Edwin Moses, and they moved from the Lower Haskell to Rawson about a year ago. The funeral was held at the Rush Creek Church Saturday afternoon, Rev. Johnson, Pastor of the Rushford M.E. Church officiating. Burial in the Bellville cemetery beside her husband. Mr. and Mrs. Irving Clark of Rush Creek went to Rawson Thursday and remained until Saturday and accompanied the remains to the church. Among those present at the funeral from far away were Claude Moses of Shinglehouse, PA, and Arthur Moses of Hazelhurst, PA, and families R.E. Thompson and children of Pratts Mills, E.S. Date from Charles Zellows have death dare as 27 Feb 1949. 3. Arthur Leroy MOSESBorn 7 Feb 1876 at New Hudson, Allegany, NY, died 18 Apr 1952 at Chino, San Bernadino Co. CA, 76 years Obituary (from Charles Zelows 20 Apr, 1950 Arthur Leroy Moss, long-time Chino resident, succumbed to a heart attack Tuesday evening at his home, 293 Third Street. He was 74 years of age. A native of Rushford, NY and a carpenter by occupation, Mr. Moses had made home in Chino since 1914. He was a member of the Chino Methodist Church and Chino Lodge, Independent Order of Odd Fellows. Surviving Mr. Moses are his wife, a daughter, Mrs. Bina Sprague if Rochester, NY and twao grandchildren. Funeral services are to be conducted Friday, 7:30 PM, at the Heinauer-Griffith chaped, 203 South Central Ave, with the Rev. Clyde E. Ruckman of Chino Metehodist Church officiating. The body will be shipped to Cuba, NY for interment. 4. Bertha Violet MOSESBorn 17 Mar 1879 at New Hudson, Allegany Co., NY, died 14 Mar 1948 at Portville, Catt. Co. NY, 68 years, buried 16 Mar 1948 at Cuba Cemetery, Cuba, Allegany Co. NY Died of a sudden cerebral hemorrhage. After her husband's death, she was a man's caretaker for many years until she died. Her obituary: Mrs. Bertha Thompson died unexpectedly Sunday Morning (14 Mar 1948) at the home of Philip Hosley, Lower Haskell, where she had made her home for the past ten years. Mrs Thompson was born in New Hudson, 17 Mar 1879, the daughter of Lafayette and Mary Moses. Surviving are her two daughters, Mrs. Beulah Bergman, Buffalo and Mrs. Mabel Timme, Castile; two sons, Lloyd Thompson of Salamanca and Roy Thompson of Friendshipk one brother, Arthur Moses, Chino, CA. Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon (16 Mar 1948) at two o'clock at the Loveridge Funeral Home. Rev. Harry Richmond, pastor of the Cuba Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be held at the Cuba Cemetery. |
