The Blame Game

Filed under: Politics — don @ 12:31 am

Bush was 100% to blame! The mayor of New Orleans didn’t have a plan! The governer should be recalled for ineptitude! Michael Brown needs to be fired!

This is the new game in the US. Liberals blame Bush and Brown. Conservatives blame Nagin and Blanco. I blame Mother Nature. Hurricane Katrina was the worst disaster the US has ever had in terms of square miles devastated. 9/11 was very bad but it was also very localized. I saw a report tonight that Katrina devastated 70,000 square miles. California is about 158,000 square miles so that would be almost half of our state. That’s a VERY large area.

When you watch the fingers being pointed it’s interesting. I’m pretty sure all of the above people were somewhat culpable. I just find it amazing that either side can actually say the other is totally at fault but that’s what I’m seeing on the liberal blogs and I’m guessing the conservative blogs are doing the same thing. For once I’m not going to say it’s all the democrat’s fault. I believe this disaster was so large and so unprecedented that nobody was prepared to handle it. Not the local government and not the federal government.

I would love to see the blame game stop and see people focus on the real problem. Helping the victims of this disaster. There will be plenty of time for the bickering later.

Roe Vs. Wade – One judge’s opinion

Filed under: Politics — don @ 4:35 pm

“At the heart of the controversy in these cases are those recurring pregnancies that pose no danger whatsoever to the life or health of the mother but are, nevertheless, unwanted for any one or more of a variety of reasons — convenience, family planning, economics, dislike of children, the embarrassment of illegitimacy, etc. . . .

“With all due respect, I dissent. I find nothing in the language or history of the Constitution to support the Court’s judgment. The Court simply fashions and announces a new constitutional right for pregnant mothers and, with scarcely any reason or authority for its action, invests that right with sufficient substance to override most existing state abortion statutes. . . . As an exercise of raw judicial power, the Court perhaps has authority to do what it does today; but, in my view, its judgment is an improvident and extravagant exercise of the power of judicial review that the Constitution extends to this Court.

“The Court apparently values the convenience of the pregnant mother more than the continued existence and development of the life or potential life that she carries. Whether or not I might agree with that marshaling of values, I can in no event join the Court’s judgment because I find no constitutional warrant for imposing such an order of priorities on the people and legislatures of the States. In a sensitive area such as this, involving as it does issues over which reasonable men may easily and heatedly differ, I cannot accept the Court’s exercise of its clear power of choice by interposing a constitutional barrier to state efforts to protect human life and by investing mothers and doctors with the constitutionally protected right to exterminate it. . . . .”

Bush nominates Hillary for Supreme Court – Dems up in arms!

Filed under: Politics — don @ 6:57 pm

Ok, so he actually nominated John Roberts, a 50 year old conservative. My point is, it wouldn’t matter who Bush nominated. The Democrats would be up in arms because they hate Bush that much. I think I made a point on Chuck’s blog when O’Conner stepped down saying about the same thing.

Expect dirt and mud from the left. It’s the only thing they know how to do and the main reason they are out of power in the Senate, Congress, and Executive braches of government. They truly believe the majority of the US agrees with them regardless of the outcome of the last election.

Amazing.

No Profiling Allowed

Filed under: Politics — don @ 8:41 am

I found this on the Larry Elder website a few years ago. In light of the London bombings I thought I should bring it out again.

Profiling Quiz

To ensure we Americans never offend anyone—particularly fanatics intent on killing us—airport screeners will not be allowed to profile people. They will continue random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, Secret Service agents who are members of the President’s security detail, 85-year-old Congressmen with metal hips, and Medal-of-Honor-winning former Governors.

Let’s pause a moment and take the following test on whether or not we should engage in profiling:

1.) In 1972 at the Munich Olympics, athletes were kidnapped & massacred by:

(c) Geraldo Rivera making up for a slow news day

(d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 & 40.

5.) In 1985 the cruise ship Achille Lauro was hijacked, and a 70-year-old American passenger was murdered and thrown overboard by:

(a) The Smurfs

(b) Davy Jones

(c) The Little Mermaid

(d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 & 40.

6.) In 1985 TWA flight 847 was hijacked at Athens, & a U.S. Navy diver was murdered by:

(a) Captain Kid

9.) In 1998, the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were bombed by:

(b) Hillary, to distract attention from Wild Bill’s women problems

(c) The World Wrestling Federation to promote its next villain: “Mustapha the Merciless”

10.) On 9/11/01, four airliners were hijacked & destroyed & thousands of people were killed by:

11.) In 2002 the United States fought a war in Afghanistan against:

Hmmm ….. Nope, no patterns anywhere to justify profiling.

Hannity and Home Boy

Filed under: Politics — don @ 9:44 pm

I used to like watching Hannity and Colmes. They are political commentators on Fox news in case you’ve been under a rock. Hannity is to the right of me and Colmes is WAY to the left(of me). During the election they offered a good mix of opinions on both sides.

Lately they don’t seem to be able to find political stories. First it was the runaway bride and now the missing teen in Aruba. For the last 2 weeks they have spent at least half of the show on the Aruba story. Although I feel for the family of Natalee Holloway I don’t think the story belongs on a political show. I guess Fox feels that will get them better ratings. Maybe I’m the only one who’s not interested in seeing these kinds of stories on political shows? I doubt it.

Come on guys, back to the name calling and venom slinging.
