Bush nominates Hillary for Supreme Court – Dems up in arms!

Filed under: Politics — don @ 6:57 pm

Ok, so he actually nominated John Roberts, a 50 year old conservative. My point is, it wouldn’t matter who Bush nominated. The Democrats would be up in arms because they hate Bush that much. I think I made a point on Chuck’s blog when O’Conner stepped down saying about the same thing.

Expect dirt and mud from the left. It’s the only thing they know how to do and the main reason they are out of power in the Senate, Congress, and Executive braches of government. They truly believe the majority of the US agrees with them regardless of the outcome of the last election.

Amazing.

Pics from Pismo

Filed under: Quads — don @ 6:16 pm

I installed Gallery and put all the pictures from the Pismo trip there. I also uploaded a few other Pismo trips and plan to add some more pictures in the near future. For now here’s the link to the gallery and I’ve added it on the sidebar.

Back from the dunes

Filed under: Quads — don @ 8:08 am

I got back yesterday around 4:30. It’s always nice to get home after camping for a few days. Camping isn’t as rough as it used to be since we got the trailer but you still have to deal with not taking a shower for a few days. The trailer does have a shower but when it’s 3 guys there doesn’t seem to be a real incentive.

So here’s some pictures from Google Earth. I’ll post the actual pictures I took a little later.

View of the whole area.

The blue line(except along the beach) is the outer fence. It’s 10.2 miles long according to Garmin.

And here’s a link to the .kmz file from Google Earth if you’d like to see it yourself.

Pismo!

Filed under: Quads — don @ 5:20 am

We’re off to Pismo Beach! Actually it’s not Pismo anymore it’s Oceano Dunes. Scott, his son Jeremy, and I try to go there every 3 or 4 months to ride our quads. With the temps in the Valley hovering around 100+ it will be nice to be in 70 degree weather. Yeah, the 119 in Mesa yesterday was a lot worse but remember, it’s a dry heat there.

Anyways I’ll try to take some pics and post them when I get back.

No Profiling Allowed

Filed under: Politics — don @ 8:41 am

I found this on the Larry Elder website a few years ago. In light of the London bombings I thought I should bring it out again.

Profiling Quiz

To ensure we Americans never offend anyone—particularly fanatics intent on killing us—airport screeners will not be allowed to profile people. They will continue random searches of 80-year-old women, little kids, airline pilots with proper identification, Secret Service agents who are members of the President’s security detail, 85-year-old Congressmen with metal hips, and Medal-of-Honor-winning former Governors.

Let’s pause a moment and take the following test on whether or not we should engage in profiling:

1.) In 1972 at the Munich Olympics, athletes were kidnapped & massacred by:

(a) Olga Corbutt

(b) Sitting Bull

(c) Arnold Schwartzeneger

(d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 & 40

2.) In 1979, the U.S. embassy in Iran was taken over by:

(a) Lost Norwegians

(b) Elvis

(c) A tour bus full of 80-year-old women

(d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 & 40

3.) During the 1980’s a number of Americans were kidnapped in Lebanon by:

(a) John Dillinger

(b) The King of Sweden

(c) The Boy Scouts

(d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 & 40

4.) In 1983, the U.S. Marine barracks in Beirut was blown up by:

(a) A pizza delivery boy

(b) Pee Wee Herman

(c) Geraldo Rivera making up for a slow news day

(d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 & 40.

5.) In 1985 the cruise ship Achille Lauro was hijacked, and a 70-year-old American passenger was murdered and thrown overboard by:

(a) The Smurfs

(b) Davy Jones

(c) The Little Mermaid

(d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 & 40.

6.) In 1985 TWA flight 847 was hijacked at Athens, & a U.S. Navy diver was murdered by:

(a) Captain Kid

(b) Charles Lindberg

(c) Mother Teresa

(d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 & 40.

7.) In 1988, Pan Am Flight 103 was bombed by:

(a) Scooby Doo

(b) The Tooth Fairy

(c) Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid who had a few sticks of dynamite

(d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 & 40.

8.) In 1993 the World Trade Center was bombed the first time by:

(a) Richard Simmons

(b) Grandma Moses

(c) Michael Jordan

(d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 & 40.

9.) In 1998, the U.S. embassies in Kenya and Tanzania were bombed by:

(a) Mr. Rogers

(b) Hillary, to distract attention from Wild Bill’s women problems

(c) The World Wrestling Federation to promote its next villain: “Mustapha the Merciless”

(d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 & 40

10.) On 9/11/01, four airliners were hijacked & destroyed & thousands of people were killed by:

(a) Bugs Bunny, Wiley E. Coyote, Daffy Duck, and Elmer Fudd

(b) The Supreme Court of Florida

(c) Mr. Bean

(d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 & 40.

11.) In 2002 the United States fought a war in Afghanistan against:

(a) Enron

(b) The Lutheran Church

(c) The NFL

(d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 & 40.

12.) In 2002 reporter Daniel Pearl was kidnapped and murdered by:

(a) Bonny and Clyde

(b) Captain Kangaroo

(c) Billy Graham

(d) Muslim male extremists mostly between the ages of 17 & 40.

Hmmm ….. Nope, no patterns anywhere to justify profiling.

A Sunday Ride

I took a ride today very similar to Chuck’s ride a few months ago. I didn’t take any pictures at Neptune’s Net but I was carrying my GPS receiver. When I got home I hooked it up to the computer and downloaded the data to Google Earth which is now available for download by the way.

Here’s some pics from GE that I generated.

Overall View.

The eagle-eyed among you should notice the above image is very similar to the picture at the top of this page.

A cool tilted view showing some ups and downs.

A close up of my house.

A higher view of my house.

And finally a closer view of the outlook..

Close but no cigar

Filed under: Nothing — don @ 12:25 pm

We had a LOT of rain this year. In fact we got more rain than any year but 1 since they have been keeping records. I think the last time it rained this much was in the late 1800s.

[slink img=rainy.jpg]

I took this picture on February 20th, 2005. Sometimes it does rain in Southern California.

See the World, kind of

Filed under: Geek — don @ 7:36 am

Would you like to fly around the world? See things you’ve never seen? If so I’ve got the application for you. It used to be called Keyhole but Google bought them and now it’s called Google Earth. It’s a program that reads images from a database of satellite photos and creates a map of the earth. If you’ve used maps.google.com you might have seen the image quality. This goes one better and actually lets you “fly” around the globe allowing you to zoom in wherever you want.

I’ve been using the subscription version for about 6 months but now it’s free. For those who had a subscription we get Google Earth Plus which adds the ability to print in higher res and my favorite, connect to a GPS receiver. You can download all the waypoints, routes, and tracklogs from any Garmin or Magellen receiver.

I highly recommend it. If you’re like me you’ll spend hours the first few days looking at all the places you’ve lived, visited, or want to visit.

Note:(6/29 – 5:15pm) Google must have gotten a REALLY BIG response to this because as of this afternoon the download is on hold. They say it will be available again soon.
